Getting Started

When faced with incorporating more activity into life, most people get intimidated thinking they must hit the gym every day for at least 20 minutes a day in order to reap the benefits. Truth is, any additional activity is better than no activity.

Instead of going hard and burning out quickly, START SLOW! Simply add more activity to your day-to-day life and then gradually increase the amount of exercise you do.

Following are some guidelines to incorporating more exercise
into your schedule.

But first, don't forget to WARM UP before every workout!

A quick cardio warm-up helps you burn more calories and ultimately more fat. Choose any type of cardio you wish, or be creative by doing something around your house. For example, you can jog up the stairs, skip through your hallways or even dance in your living room! Whatever you do, just make sure you do it at an easy pace for at least five minutes.

Dress for Success

Make sure you are dressed properly for your increased effort. Wear comfortable clothes that breath.  But, most importantly, wear proper shoes. If your feet don't feel good you will find a reason to stop moving. Check with your nearest athletic footwear store and get your feet sized and fitted for a pair of shoes with the correct support and cushioning.

Whether you're walking, pedaling, gardening, inline skating, swimming, or stepping, do an activity you love. The exercise you choose should be enjoyable, and most importantly, fit easily into your schedule. In other words, just move! once you start, it will become habit. Soon it will feel excruciating to sit for long periods. Your body loves to move, so let it!
